Become a Vaccine Ambassador in Your Community

The American Lung Association is asking for your help. We want you to become a Vaccine Ambassador.

WHY? Some people are less receptive than others to the idea of being vaccinated against infectious respiratory diseases. Receptivity is impacted by the trustworthiness and relatability of the vaccine educators and messengers, as well as an individual’s perceived risk of infection. Helping people understand the safety and efficacy of getting vaccinated is instrumental for vaccines to work across large populations of people.

HOW? Visit Lung.org/vaccine-toolkit and download the toolkit and become familiar with the information and resources available. By downloading the Toolkit you will be enrolled as a Vaccine Ambassador and we’ll reach out to you with updates and next steps.

COMMITMENT: As a Vaccine Ambassador we ask that you consider donating one-hour a month for 12 months, working in tandem with the Lung Association on this special assignment to help educate people about the importance of getting vaccinated. Do one or more of the following activities below or create your own ideas and share them with us at vaccine-toolkit@lung.org

Here are some ways to get started after you have downloaded the Toolkit(s):

  • Follow the American Lung Association’s social media channels – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Share posts from the Lung Association on vaccine education and awareness.
  • Spread the word by sharing social media photos from the toolkit on your website, social channels and newsletters using the hashtag #PowerAndImmunity or #ResiliencyAndImmunity and tagging the Lung Association.
  • Create a social media post photo or video (30-60 seconds) sharing your story of why you choose to get a vaccine and talk about the benefits of vaccination. Please share the hashtag that is related to the toolkit you downloaded (#PowerAndImmunity or #ResiliencyAndImmunity). This can even include a photo of you being vaccinated, the bandage or vaccination card (cross out personal information on the picture) and write a post about why you received your vaccination. Use the hashtag: #PowerAndImmunity or #ResiliencyAndImmunity.
  • Create vaccine FAQ TikTok videos (tag @americanlungassociation) with key messages taken from the COVID-19 Vaccine Toolkit.
  • Make sure you are wearing a mask if your photo is in a public location.
  • Encourage connections to share your social media posts.
  • Recruit another Vaccine Ambassador to join this campaign.
  • Reach out to 5 family members, friends, or community members to have a conversation about vaccines. Use the Kitchen Table Talking Points, Circle of Trust Talking Points or your own talking points based on the toolkit information.
  • Write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper and mention the Vaccine Toolkit and other resources on Lung.org.
  • Sign up for our Lung Action Network and get involved in vaccination advocacy initiatives.
  • Join efforts in your community such as sharing clinic locations, helping at a clinic site, transport those who need help to the clinic site, etc.
  • ALWAYS serve as a role model and practice safe, healthy behaviors such as wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, and washing your hands often.
  • Hold a zoom party – Invite friends and family to have the discussion about making informed decisions using the Better For It Toolkit at Lung.org/vaccine-toolkit.
  • Host virtual information/Q&A sessions, share materials/videos in newsletters and bulletins, partner with local health departments/pharmacies to schedule a vaccination clinic at the church or within the community.
  • Help connect members to credible vaccination information by including information on your website.
  • Offer a discussion before or after weekly studies, meetings, or other activities.
  • Encourage healthy behaviors such as wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, and washing your hands often as a regular communication with membership.
  • Talk with your patients and colleagues about the importance and benefits of vaccines.
  • Use the talk points or the FAQ in the toolkit to begin a conversation.
  • If the visit is in person, resources for the patient can be printed and provided.
  • Get the whole practice on the same page about the importance of vaccination—from the receptionist, to the healthcare staff, to environmental health workers.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach as each community is unique. As Vaccine Ambassadors share their good work with us a vaccine-toolkit@lung.org, we will share the information to feed innovative and engaging ideas with everyone.
