Dr. Reibman, Medical Director of the NYU/Bellevue Asthma Airways Environment Program, has been a member of the ACRC since its inception. She began the Bellevue Hospital Asthma program in 1991 under a New York State grant, as the first large New York City public hospital program to reduce asthma morbidity in an area with the highest asthma morbidity/mortality in the country. The focus of the program is to provide state-of the art clinical management combined with clinical and translational research. She is a former recipient of an NIH NHLBI Asthma Academic Award and was a recipient of NIH NHLBI and NIEHS RO1 funding. She has been the institutional PI for investigator-initiated as well as industry funded clinical trials. She created the NYU/Bellevue Asthma Registry (NYU/BAR), a multiethnic registry of nearly 1,000 asthma cases and controls for environmental and genetic studies of severe asthma. Dr. Reibman performed the first studies on the adverse health effects in the local community after the destruction of the World Trade Center (WTC) towers and created the only program designed to treat community members with WTC-related adverse health effects. This program is now funded as law under the James L. Zadroga Health and Compensation Act. She is excited to be a member of the new ACRC and participating in clinical trials to advance the health of those with asthma and COPD.
