Jim Gooden

Actor and voice talent

Jim Gooden has been an enthusiastic volunteer for the American Lung Association since 1993. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, he began the journey to support the mission as a local board member with an emphasis on media relations. The dangers related to tobacco smoking are known to him first-hand through the early deaths of family members who were long-time cigarette users, including his father.

Jim’s involvement expanded as he became the local Board Chair, state Board Chair, and chaired the merged South Carolina and Georgia boards. He later served the Association on the Nationwide Assembly, the Marketing and Communications Committee where he chaired the ALA’s 100th Anniversary Celebration and was elected to the national Board of Directors where he served as Board Secretary, Board Chair-elect, and in 2010 national Board Chair. He continued to serve the mission after leaving the board when he chaired the national search for a new CEO / President, resulting in the selection of Harold Wimmer for that position.

An alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, Jim stays busy running his website development company ACE Communications.net, playing USTA league tennis, and volunteering his time as a Rotarian. He is an actor in numerous tv commercials, films, and corporate productions. He also had a recurring role on the TV series Army Wives.
