Mike Carstens is a Consultant at Health Insurance Risk Advisors, LLC in Omaha, Nebraska, an organization providing assistance to health plan sponsors in reaching their goals of managing costs and delivering excellent coverage for members.
Prior to becoming a consultant, Mike led the Product Management area at Physicians Mutual Insurance Company, also in Omaha. Spending the early part of his career as a pricing actuary, his ultimate responsibilities included leadership and strategy in product design, development and management for health and life insurance products in the senior market. His role included extensive work with distribution partners, as well as communications to executive leadership and external oversight organizations.
Altogether, Mike has nearly 30 years of actuarial and product management experience in the insurance industry, with a focus in health insurance. He is Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
As a volunteer for over twenty years, he has served in various capacities including Asthma Walk Team Captain, Board Member of American Lung Association Nebraska, Central States, and Upper Midwest, Chairman of the Board for American Lung Association of the Central States FY 2009-2010, as well as Secretary/Treasurer and Chair-Elect on the National Board.
