Carol S., WA

I had a routine mammogram in August of 2016 which showed cancer. I didn't need chemo, just radiation. Once that was over, I talked with my doctor about low-dose lung cancer screening. I smoked for over 30 years. They found a small nodule in my right lung.

I will be getting rechecked in two months--a pet scan which will show if it's cancerous. I am also having my eyes checked because of my age and diabetes, and a colonoscopy this month. I am being proactive to eliminate the possibilities. You never know, but if you find out you can deal with it. Don't put it off. My cancer was a shock because there was no history on either side of my family.

If you're on Medicare, the lung scan is all paid for. It's easy to do and takes less than an hour. Take the time, it may save your life. Especially if you were a smoker.
