Helen M.

On my birthday, I was sitting in my doctor's office waiting to speak to an oncologist and all I can remember is just feeling broken. Two week prior to that day, I had told my daughter how I was coughing and having some mild back pain and she quickly assumed I had pneumonia. I went to my PCP and after an X-ray it was revealed that there was a soft tissue mass on my left lung. I was sent to a surgeon to find out it was small cell lung cancer. It was.

I started chemotherapy in November of that year and radiation soon followed. I became weak but I had God on my side. My faith in Jesus had given me strength to get through. In March, I was told by that same oncologist that the cancer was gone! I finished all radiation and had another PET scan in June that also said it was still GONE. In August 2015, I began the 18 whole brain radiation that my doctor said was protocol at the hospital because this type of cancer was known to spread.

It is now January 2016 and I'm healthy and gaining my weight and hair back. Everyone talks so much about breast cancer and while it is a killer of women, no one talks about lung cancer. More women need X-rays, and annual checkups on things other than their breasts.

I thank my heavenly Father each day for my healing.
