Katherine K.

My lung cancer was found accidentally. I was also told I have mild emphysema. I had no symptoms, no idea that I had cancer growing in my lung.

According to my Thoracic Surgeon I had "a very fast moving very aggressive form of cancer". I feel extremely fortunate that they found and removed my cancer before it had a chance to spread.

My husband and adult children are my support system.

I am a former smoker, but my oncologist could not connect the lung cancer to smoking. But, they said the emphysema was a given because I grew up around second hand smoke. My primary doctor thinks the cancer came from radon exposure (I lived in an area that is known for high radon levels for almost 10 years).

I have been cancer free 3 years and 4 months.
