LUNG FORCE

2022 Lung Health Barometer

A national survey to gauge awareness and understanding of lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., and despite its undeniable impact on our nation, the disease often remains in the shadows. It is estimated that over 235,000 Americans will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year.

The 2022 Lung Health Barometer surveyed a nationally representative sample of 4,000 women and men about their awareness and understanding of lung cancer. Survey data reveals that only 1 in 4 respondents were aware that the lung cancer survival rate increased by over 30% in the past 10 years.

Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths

According to the 2022 Lung Health Barometer, only 29% of Americans knew that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.
73% of adults have not spoken with their doctor about their risk for lung cancer and only 40% are concerned they might get the disease.
1 in 4 respondents (26%) were aware that the lung cancer survival rate increased by over 30% in the past ten years.
Nearly 70% of respondents were not familiar with the availability of lung cancer screening for early detection of the disease.
Greater awareness of lung cancer is key to securing research funding, encouraging lung cancer screening and reducing the stigma around this disease.

There is hope.

While lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., the survival rate has increased to nearly 22% and awareness of this deadly disease has steadily increased.
