Eating Well with Multiple Health Conditions

When you are living with COPD and another chronic condition, knowing what to eat can feel overwhelming. That’s why it is so important to talk to your healthcare provider and work with a registered dietitian to create a diet plan that is right for you. Start by exploring options that often work well for people living with these conditions.

  • Choose foods low in sugar
  • Pick whole grains-brown rice, whole wheat bread and oatmeal
  • Add lean proteins-like chicken, fish, eggs and beans
  • Focus on healthy carbohydrate choices- too much pasta, bread and chips can raise your blood sugar level
  • Eat less salt – try to choose foods with low salt and avoid adding salt
  • Pick heart healthy fats – use olive oil instead of butter. Eat nuts, seeds and avocadoes in small amounts
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Choose lean meats- like fish, chicken and turkey without the skin
  • Stay away from fried and greasy food
  • Limit sweetened beverages
