Celebrating a Lifesaving Partnership: American Lung Association Awards Pfizer Top Corporate Honor

On Friday, June 27, the American Lung Association honored Pfizer with the Outstanding Corporate Partner Award at its annual awards celebration in Chicago for their long-standing commitment, leadership and support of lung health. The decades-long partnership has been integral in supporting the Lung Association’s work to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

“We thank the entire Pfizer team for your incredible support over many decades. It is thanks to the faith, trust and commitment to our work from partners like Pfizer that the Lung Association is able to have the impact that we are,” said Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association. “Relationships with key partners enable the Lung Association to deliver life-changing and lifesaving education, research and advocacy. These relationships are built on a foundation of leadership and a shared vision for a world free of lung disease.”

Over the past 25 years, Pfizer has provided over $11.3 million to the Lung Association to advance lung health. The partnership has educated people on vaccinations and treatment for potentially life-threatening respiratory diseases, helped people quit tobacco for good, supported work to ensure quality and affordable healthcare coverage for everyone, and much more.

“At Pfizer, we are incredibly proud of our decades-long partnership with the American Lung Association,” said Angela Riemer, Vice President, U.S. Business Policy & Public Affairs, Pfizer. “We are honored to receive this award and continue our collaboration with the premier advocacy organization working to improve lung health across our country.”

The Lung Association has partnered with Pfizer on critical education and awareness campaigns throughout the years. A few of the programs created through this partnership include:

  • Pneumococcal Pneumonia Education: For the past 12 years, Pfizer has consistently supported the Lung Association’s work to educate people living in America about the dangers of pneumococcal pneumonia and the importance of vaccination. As a result, countless adults have received education to take steps to help protect themselves with a pneumococcal vaccination.
  • COVID-19 Support: Rising to the occasion during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pfizer provided much-needed support for the Lung Association to launch a testing and treatment campaign. This timely education helped people understand their risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19, the importance of testing early and how to access appropriate treatment options. These important resources continue to be accessed today.
  • Tobacco Cessation: Together, Pfizer and the Lung Association have helped people quit tobacco for good through education, compassion and technology to make quitting more accessible for all. Support from Pfizer has brought to life such programs as Ask, Advise, Refer to Quit Don’t Switch, Quitter’s Circle, a conference on tobacco cessation policy, and many more.
  • Advocacy: Pfizer has been a long-standing and vital supporter of the Lung Association’s advocacy work. From their many-year commitment to supporting LUNG FORCE Advocacy Day to their willingness to support our new Respiratory Advocacy Day, their commitment to empowering patients, protecting access to vaccines, ensuring quality and affordable healthcare and safeguarding lung health is unmatched.

Since 1904, the Lung Association has worked to champion lung health and pioneered the model of education, advocacy and research to support public health. In this work, the organization collaborates with partners and alliances that support efforts to defeat lung cancer, champion clean air for all, create a tobacco-free future and improve the quality of life for those with lung disease and their families. The Outstanding Corporate Partner Award recognizes these partners for their critical partnership in our mission.
