Nancy R., CA

I can remember in the mid 1960's, being on the playground of my elementary school in Carson, CA, having this absolutely burning sensation and would have to go to the nurse a lot. Inevitably, I would be sent home and wind up with either bronchitis or other pulmonary problems.

In 1970, we moved to Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (San Pedro area) but did not have the problems faced as before. In 1972, we moved to Torrance, CA.

At age 14, I was diagnosed with asthma. I was treated and went to see a pediatric allergist. I underwent the allergy scratch tests, which found I was allergic to everything (rag weed, mold, mildew, etc.) except foods.

Through the years, I have had pneumonia, bronchitis and other lung issues. After three bronchoscopies, I will have my fourth one this week.

My dad passed on with lung cancer in 2003 at the age of 57, so I am a bit frightened to be on oxygen and perhaps realize the same fate as my father. I can say that I have never smoked, drank or used recreational drugs.

Living in LA/OC, the world of air pollution cleanup has become very strict compared to decades ago. Air quality has improved every generation and continues to. CA is the best state in the union. As a native of California, I wouldn't live anywhere else.
