School-age children (ages 6-11) with asthma are at risk for poor outcomes and impaired health because of the difficulties in independently completing disease self-management behaviors. Caregivers play a pivotal role in children with asthma during this developmental period. The proposed project will evaluate how to optimize caregivers’ use of Supporting Positive Asthma Routines in Kids (SPARK). SPARK is a mobile health intervention designed to enhance caregivers’ confidence in managing asthma and equip them with essential asthma management skills, ultimately aiming to improve asthma outcomes in their school-age children. We will partner with caregivers of children diagnosed with asthma to form an advisory board that will provide feedback to develop and refine SPARK. Subsequently, we will complete pilot testing with 20 families of children diagnosed with asthma to assess whether the intervention content is feasible, acceptable and not overly burdensome. This data will inform a future multisite trial to optimize SPARK.
