A Novel Targeted Therapeutic Strategy for KRAS/SMARCA4 Mutant Lung Cancers

Grant Awarded:

  • Innovation Award

Research Topics:

  • biomarkers
  • combination therapies experimental therapeutics
  • proteomics

Research Disease:

  • lung cancer

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Approximately 30%  of lung cancers harbor mutations in the KRAS gene, making KRAS an important target for precision cancer therapy. Recent advances have produced drugs that directly inhibit mutant KRAS, significantly improving treatment options for many patients. However, responses vary considerably and many patients experience limited benefits or resistance to these therapies. This project seeks to improve the effectiveness of KRAS-targeted therapies by identifying biomarkers that predict treatment response and by uncovering the biological mechanisms that determine why some tumors respond better than others. Insights gained from this work will guide the development of more personalized treatment strategies and new combination approaches aimed at improving outcomes for patients with KRAS-mutant lung cancer.
