  • lung cancer

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is one of the most aggressive and deadly forms of lung cancer with few treatment options and a survival rate under seven percent. Many SCLC tumors carry alterations in genes that control how DNA is packaged and how genes are turned on or off. One of the most frequently altered genes in SCLC is KMT2D, which regulates gene activity. This project will study how the loss of KMT2D contributes to the aggressiveness of SCLC cells and identify new ways to target KMT2D deficient SCLC tumors. We will leverage clinical tumor samples and cell line models to identify the genes and pathways regulated by KMT2D and employ advanced genetic approaches to uncover therapeutic vulnerabilities and strategies for targeting these tumors. Our goal is to uncover new, more effective treatments designed specifically for patients whose cancers carry KMT2D mutations, ultimately improving survival and quality of life for people with SCLC.
