Lung scarring, or fibrosis, is a serious complication for some people with rheumatoid arthritis, while others with the same condition never develop lung disease. We still do not know why this happens or how to predict who is at risk. This project will study blood samples from patients with rheumatoid arthritis who have lung scarring and those who do not. By examining their immune cells at a very detailed, single-cell level, we aim to identify early warning signs and immune pathways that trigger lung damage. Our goal is to help doctors detect lung disease sooner, guide treatment decisions and ultimately prevent or slow its progression in people living with rheumatoid arthritis.
