  • pulmonary fibrosis

Fibrosis is scar tissue that builds up in an organ or body part and can lead to chronic disease. When fibrosis occurs in the lungs, it is called interstitial lung disease (ILD). Currently, there are no treatments available that can stop the progression of fibrosis in ILD and often people require transplants to survive. We and others have found that T regulatory cells (Tregs) are different in people with ILD compared to healthy people and we suspect specific types of Tregs may cause fibrosis in the lung. Our proposed studies will determine which characteristics of Tregs can be targeted to prevent fibrosis in the lungs and alleviate the suffering of those living with this chronic disease.
