Prioritizing a Tobacco-Free Culture in Behavioral Health Settings

Public health professionals have the opportunity to partner with behavioral healthcare organizations to build capacity for system-wide, sustainable initiatives that will reduce tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure among employees, clients/patients, and visitors.

Promoting comprehensive, evidence-based tobacco-free programs and treatment that works along with providing technical assistance to the staff of behavioral health organizations is crucial to integrating services that effectively reduce the toll of tobacco use in this population group.

To best support tobacco control program staff and other public health professionals, the Lung Association has identified resources that highlight effective training programs, practice recommendations, resources and toolkits aimed at behavioral health care teams.
